I recommend having a few regular weekly activities so you have some set social interactions to look forward to. For instance, I go to the same Pilates class every Sunday, and I know the other regulars. I go to a weekly happy hour. You could also attend a weekly trivia night, or join a skeeball league, or take a Spanish class, just to fill up your calendar. For communities, telecommuting may offer fuller employment (by increasing the employability of circumstantially marginalized groups such as work at home parents and caregivers, the disabled, retirees, and people living in remote areas), reducing traffic congestion and traffic accidents, relieving pressure on transportation infrastructure, reducing greenhouse gases, reducing energy use, and improving disaster preparedness.[57]

Skill variety has the strongest relationship with internal work motivation.[32] Jobs that allow workers to use a variety of skills increase workers’ internal work motivation. If teleworkers are limited in teamwork opportunities and have fewer opportunities to use a variety of skills,[43] they may have lower internal motivation towards their work. Also, perceived social isolation can lead to less motivation.[77] It can be argued that without a work climate or manager nearby, the ability to motivate oneself is even more important when telecommuting than when working in an office.
